Cal in Red’s Low Low is a sun-kissed debut that shines bright
Their four-year journey culminates in an album full of dreamy melodies and introspective lyrics.
Produced by: Connor Wright
Low Low is the product of a vigilant four-year creative process that saw the brothers exploring new musical territories while staying true to their melodic roots. The 10-track LP effortlessly blends elements of 90s indie-rock with brief nods to the 80s and even a touch of twang, all wrapped up in a dreamy, glowing filter. Despite the album’s varied influences, the duo never loses sight of their core sound: melodic vignettes that evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth.
The album’s latest single, ‘Flagstaff,’ stands out as a poignant reflection of the band’s experiences over the past few years. Accompanied by a music video directed by Marco Miranda, the song captures the reflective spirit of the brothers’ journey through touring and living on a tight budget. “This one stop for gas in Flagstaff, Arizona really encapsulated the beauty of touring. It’s something you want to share with loved one’s back home but never quite know how,” Kendall Wright explains.
Director Marco Miranda adds, “The energy Kendall and Connor bring to their craft is inspiring and watching them on stage, you just know you’re experiencing something special. To me, this music video captures exactly who these guys are and I wanted to be able to share the way I see them with everybody else.”
Low Low has already garnered significant attention with its singles ‘Frontside,’ ‘She Won’t Say,’ ‘Boyfriend,’ ‘Zebra,’ ‘Habits,’ and ‘Kitchen’ Ft. James Mercer, the latter featuring a collaboration with The Shins’ frontman.
As they celebrate the release of Low Low, Cal in Red is set to perform at their hometown album release show at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids on September 26th. The duo’s live performances are known for their infectious energy, with Kendall on guitar and Connor on bass and synths, creating an irresistible atmosphere that perfectly complements their recorded work.
