Bob Mould’s Here We Go Crazy delivers raw power and emotional depth

Bob Mould returns with Here We Go Crazy, his fifteenth solo album and first full-length release in over four years. Out now via Granary Music/BMG Records, the album sees the legendary musician refining his sound with a mix of bright melodies, powerful guitars, and introspective lyricism.

Building on the success of 2020’s Blue Hearts, Here We Go Crazy is an 11-track collection that captures Mould’s ability to balance raw energy with emotional depth. Featuring longtime collaborators Jon Wurster on drums and Jason Narducy on bass, the album was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago and mixed at Tiny Telephone in Oakland with engineer Beau Sorenson. The result is a bracing, high-energy record that stays true to Mould’s punk and power-pop roots while exploring themes of control, chaos, uncertainty, and love.
A standout moment on the album comes with ‘When Your Heart Is Broken,’ a track Mould describes as built from a “familiar blueprint” of his work: “bright melodies, dark words, loud guitars.” He explains, “It’s one of the earliest songs written for Here We Go Crazy, and I added it to my Solo Electric set list in Fall 2022. Some nights, I would play ‘Too Far Down’, followed by ‘When Your Heart Is Broken’, then ask the audience: Which one of the two is heavier? To me, the musical urgency of ‘When Your Heart Is Broken’ is uplifting, the lyrical reflection offers redemption, and it’s most certainly a song I can throw myself into when playing live.”
Mould’s ability to fuse deeply personal themes with unrelenting energy is on full display throughout Here We Go Crazy. With its blend of punchy hooks, distortion-laden riffs, and poignant songwriting, the album reaffirms Mould’s place as a master of his craft. As he embarks on a U.S. headline tour this spring, fans can expect a setlist packed with both new anthems and classics, proving once again that Mould’s musical legacy is far from finished.
