Big Black Delta – ‘ADONAI’

Big Black Delta channels something higher on ADONAI

Known for his genre-blurring soundscapes and existential musings, Big Black Delta returns with ADONAI, the fifth self-produced album from Jonathan Bates.

True to style, ADONAI refuses to be pinned down by a singular sound. Swinging between electronic experimentation, raw emotion, and cinematic grandeur the album feels less like a statement and more like an offering—an open-ended dialogue between artist and listener, inviting personal interpretation. From the propulsive energy of lead singles like ‘Uncertainty Is Delight’ and ‘Splash’ to the reflective depth of tracks like ‘I’m Sorry Alex’ and ‘Say Hi To Venus,’ Bates delivers his most precise and intentional work yet.

Bates says of the album’s creative process:

“I can’t explain in words what that means, but its intention is that of service. I included higher beings, so to say. It’s the most ancient greeting I could find.”

With ADONAI, Bates continues to carve out his unique space in the musical cosmos. It’s a record that doesn’t demand understanding—it simply exists, waiting to be found and felt.
