Produced by: Ben Lukas Boysen

Ben Lukas Boysen’s latest album, Alta Ripa, is a captivating fusion of nostalgia and innovation. Revisiting the formative inspirations of his youth in rural Germany, the album blends introspective melodies with the experimental energy of Berlin’s electronic music scene, showcasing Boysen’s evolution as an artist.

Released via Erased Tapes, the album’s eight tracks traverse a spectrum of soundscapes, reflecting Boysen’s eclectic influences. From the serene and structured to the chaotic and modular, Alta Ripa invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery, offering a balance of meticulous craftsmanship and the freedom of unpredictability. Tracks like ‘Quasar’ and ‘Fama’ highlight Boysen’s ability to merge his classical roots with cutting-edge electronic techniques, while ‘Vineta,’ featuring Tom Adams, brings an emotive depth to the album’s diverse palette.

Reflecting on the album, Boysen shares:

“After nearly 20 years in Berlin, I’ve had plenty exchanges and encounters with wonderful artists, that made me reflect on my work. But this little town Altrip with its distant memories, that I in some ways have never really left, kept moving to the front of my mind and encouraged me to take everything that I’ve learned “back home” so to speak. I wanted to artistically return to the place that formed and inspired me before life got too complicated, and tap back into that world with today’s experiences. Somehow going back and starting from scratch at the same time, to write an album that is simultaneously my oldest and newest record.”

By embracing modular analog synths and relinquishing some control over the creative process, Boysen crafts a work that feels organic and alive, marrying the nostalgia of his early influences with the possibilities of modern electronic music. Alta Ripa stands as a testament to Boysen’s dynamic artistry, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in his career.
