AtticOmatic shapes a singular vision on debut EP Fold The World

Brighton five-piece AtticOmatic has released its debut EP, Fold The World—a compelling, genre-warping project that resists easy categorization while carving out a world entirely its own.
Produced by: Callum McGuinness and Harris Chambers
Formed in a Brighton house-share by core songwriting duo Kamran Kaur and Lorcan Forder, AtticOmatic has quickly gained momentum off the back of a handful of singles, a string of sold-out hometown shows, and support from names like Nabihah Iqbal, who invited the band to open for her at The 100 Club and featured them on her BBC Radio 6Music special. With their lineup rounded out by members of contemporaries Flip Top Head, AtticOmatic’s sound floats freely between post-rock, dream-pop, jazz, indie, and electronica—a blur of textures that lands squarely in the realm of the mesmeric.
Out May 9, Fold The World is the group’s most comprehensive statement to date. Inspired by the origami creations of Lorcan’s step-dad—whose intricate paper folds also feature on the EP’s cover art—the project meditates on the subtle acts that shape our inner and outer worlds. Each track creates a “pocket paradise” of sorts, filtered through the lens of Lorcan and Kamran’s experiences with ADHD and Autism. The result is a deeply personal record that still manages to feel expansive and inviting.
Speaking more about the EP, Kamran says:
“We named our debut EP Fold The World although none of the tracks are about large world issues or politics or anything like that. They’re just about us, existing in a world that we try to shape as much as we can, in small ways at first and many times starting with our own heads. Lorcan’s step-dad does origami to pass the time – he folded the hundreds of little pieces of paper that you can see on the cover art. When he was folding for hours, we doubt he could predict how each small piece of paper would fit in the bigger picture.”
The band will mark the release with their biggest headline show yet at Brighton’s Dust on May 23, before supporting rising stars Man/Woman/Chainsaw at London’s Sebright Arms in June. For AtticOmatic, the pieces are folding into place.
