Vlad Holiday explores loss and recovery in new single ‘This Was Always Gonna End’

Vlad Holiday’s latest single, ‘This Was Always Gonna End,’ marks a deeply emotional chapter in his debut album My Favorite Drug, set for release on November 15.
Opening the album, ‘This Was Always Gonna End’ draws listeners into a soundscape of melancholy and grandeur, reflecting a state of emotional turbulence. Through its downtempo, lo-fi-inspired production, the song explores themes of foreseen heartache and inevitable endings. The haunting arrangement is filled with layers of vintage microphones and tape machines, showcasing Holiday’s dedication to creating a nostalgic and reflective atmosphere.
“This song is about one of my lowest moments and the beginning of my mental health recovery. My therapist at the time wasn’t working, and the only thing that got me out alive was writing about what I was going through. I know it’s a heavy way to start an album but I wanted to be very open from the start.”
As Vlad Holiday gears up to join Declan McKenna on tour next week, ‘This Was Always Gonna End’ gives a powerful glimpse into the emotional depth and sonic artistry that listeners can expect from his upcoming album.
