Rotterdam post-punks Tramhaus announce debut album The First Exit and share new single ‘Once Again’

Premiered on Seattle’s KEXP radio, the track follows last month’s raucous single ‘Beech’ and highlights the more mysterious facets of the band’s sound.
Following the announcement of their debut album The First Exit, due September 20th, 2024 via Dutch indie label Subroutine Records, Rotterdam post-punk quintet Tramhaus has released their latest single, ‘Once Again.’ The track is a slow-burning, captivating song that showcases Tramhaus’ unique style. With assured, steady, and discretely dangerous undertones, it wades through indolent vocal lines, thumping rhythms, and mournful lead guitar before crashing and thundering in a fury of uplifting punk rock. Echoing influences from Pixies, Fat White Family, and fellow Dutch trailblazers Personal Trainer, the sound remains distinctly Tramhaus.
The accompanying music video, directed by Peter Marcus, utilized a random number generator to compile untitled videos uploaded to YouTube during the 2020 lockdown. As the band explains:
“As an ode to the absurdism of the digital age we are living in, this music video highlights the peculiar phenomenon of people uploading uncut videos to YouTube without giving it a title or context. The result is a quick-paced experimental documentary short of seemingly unrelated footage on which the audience can project their own associations, making it that the meaning derived from it may differ per spectator. It is art in its barest form, as aesthetically speaking there is no real value to it. It is like a story without text, a film without a script. It solely exists on our innate ability to create our own stories with whatever we have at hand.”
‘Once Again’ is available now. Their debut album, The First Exit, is due 20th September 2024 via Dutch indie Subroutine.
