The Academy Is… chase nostalgia and renewal on ‘Miracle’
The Academy Is… returns with ‘Miracle,’ the intense yet reflective new single released from their first album in 18 years. The Chicago alt-rock band continues their long-awaited comeback with a track that blends driving guitars and shimmering tones, signaling a new chapter while staying rooted in their pop-punk foundation.
‘Miracle’ sways between urgent, riff-forward passages and more introspective moments. Guitarist Mike Carden’s dynamic arrangements lock in with bassist Adam Siska and drummer Andy Mrotek, building tension before opening into soaring choruses. William Beckett delivers one of his most emotionally direct performances, singing, “I need to love again/Turn me on my head/I need to feel the warmth/Tell me I’m not dead.” The song captures both immediacy and reflection, balancing punchy energy with textured detail.
Guitarist Mike Carden explains:
“With this track, we were chasing the feeling of when you discovered your new favorite song… ‘Miracle’ reminds us of LimeWire era vibes; finally finding that song that takes you by surprise, a very distinct feeling. We wanted it to hit and pull you straight in. We feel like…mission accomplished.”
‘Miracle’ sets the tone for Almost There as both a reunion and a reinvention, capturing the spark of rediscovery that defines the band’s return.
