Steve Perry and Willie Nelson unite for a reimagined duet of ‘Faithfully’
Four decades after Journey first released the iconic power ballad ‘Faithfully,’ legendary vocalist Steve Perry returns with a reimagined version of the track—this time as a heartfelt duet with celebrated singer, songwriter, and guitarist Willie Nelson.
Released today via Dark Horse Records, the new version marks a powerful collaboration between two musical icons. Originally recorded in 1983, the track is known for its sweeping emotion and timeless melody. In this updated rendition, Perry and Nelson breathe new life into the classic, blending Perry’s signature vocal strength with Nelson’s distinctive phrasing. The result is a moving and richly textured duet that honors the spirit of the original while offering a fresh interpretation.
Recorded at Ronnie’s Place in Nashville and Steve Perry’s studio, Love Box, the track was produced by Kent Wells and Perry. It features an ensemble of top-tier musicians, including Mike Rojas on piano, James Mitchell on electric guitar, Scott Sanders on steel guitar, and Mickey Raphael on harmonica. A music video, animated by Patrick Atkins, also accompanies the release, adding visual depth to the emotional resonance of the track.
On the reimagined track, Steve Perry shares:
“No one has a voice or vocal phrasing anything like Willie Nelson. Singing this duet with Willie has been something I’ve always wanted to do. After recording ‘Faithfully’ with Journey, I always felt it would be a great song for Willie too. What a wonderful experience it was to finally sing with Willie. I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together.”
Willie Nelson adds:
“Working with Steve Perry on ‘Faithfully’ was a meaningful experience. It was a pleasure to collaborate on this song. I’m proud that we could create something meaningful and use it to give back through Farm Aid.”
Proceeds from the single will be donated to Farm Aid in honor of the nonprofit’s 40th anniversary, supporting American family farmers. The duet is available to stream now on all major platforms.
