Sophia Kennedy’s new single ‘Rodeo’ is a hypnotic journey into the unknown

Sophia Kennedy returns with her new single ‘Rodeo,’ the first taste of her upcoming album Squeeze Me, set for release on May 23rd via City Slang Records.
‘Rodeo’ marks Kennedy’s first solo release since her acclaimed 2021 album Monsters and her collaboration with DJ Koze on ‘Wespennest.’ The track is a blend of repetitive piano chords, shimmering synth basslines, and hauntingly luminous choirs, all tied together with Kennedy’s signature experimental pop flair.
Sophia describes the track as a journey into a dream-like, possibly nightmarish state, saying:
“There’s a saying, ‘Don’t call us, we call you.’ That’s what ‘Rodeo’ did. We didn’t call ‘Rodeo,’ it called us. It wrote itself, immediate and direct. We’ve only ever played it live, with just piano and bass. Back in the studio, we gave it a groove and a psychedelic guitar. Rodeo is a journey into a dream-like state, perhaps a nightmarish one. It looks into a future with a lot of question marks. Rodeo doesn’t know where it’s headed, but I’m pretty sure it knows where it took off.”
‘Rodeo’ is out now.
