Seattle’s own Sea Lemon, fronted by Natalie Lew, has unveiled a stunning new single, ‘Crystals,’ featuring none other than Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard.

‘Crystals’ opens with lush, shimmering guitars as Lew and Gibbard trade verses, their voices intertwining over an atmospheric instrumental. The chorus, “Throwing crystals at the wall, all around,” speaks to the idea of waiting for signs that never come, capturing the track’s balance of hope and disillusionment. Lew’s songwriting style, often dreamy and wistful, takes on a darker edge as she reflects on her frustrations with “manifesting” and coping mechanisms, an idea that Gibbard amplifies with his own verse. The pair’s combined lyricism and vocals create a moody yet captivating energy, perfectly encapsulating the essence of Pacific Northwestern sound.

Lew explains the inspiration behind ‘Crystals’:

“I wrote most of the song after coming to this realization that “manifesting” or looking for signs in nature or everyday life is mostly just a coping mechanism to get by day to day. When Ben came on and wrote his verse, I loved his added angle—rather than attempting lighter coping mechanisms, just submitting oneself to being upset and living in that darkness for a while can be a way to cope in and of itself.

“Ben’s contribution to this song is so exciting for me to say the least; as a huge Death Cab fan growing up, Ben’s songwriting has inspired me since I got interested in songwriting myself.”

With ‘Crystals,’ Sea Lemon continues to solidify her place as a key figure in Seattle’s music scene, delivering a song that feels as weighty as it is exhilarating.

Released via Luminelle Recordings, ‘Crystals’ is available now on your favorite DSP.
