Sea Fever channel synth-punk intensity on ‘Able Eyes’

Manchester outfit Sea Fever crank up the volume and emotion with their new single ‘Able Eyes,’ the final preview before the release of their second album, Surface Sound, out Friday, May 30 via Cosmic Glue.
Known for blending electronic textures with indie-rock energy, Sea Fever takes a decisive step into anthem territory with ‘Able Eyes.’ Driven by fuzzed-out guitars, tightly-wound rhythms, and impassioned vocals, the track moves away from their recent clubland-inspired output and into bold, main-stage-ready territory. The band’s pedigree — featuring members tied to New Order, Johnny Marr, and Haven — pulses beneath the surface, while the influence of Lou Reed, Nico, and synth-punk pioneers Suicide gives ‘Able Eyes’ a raw, confrontational edge.
Singer, guitarist, and lyricist, Iwan Gronow says:
“‘Able Eyes’ truly signifies Sea Fever’s versatility. Although this is not one of our dance tracks, the song still has a real, intentional pulse, mixing Velvet Underground guitars with layers of synths. Lyrically the song is nostalgic, throwing back to growing up. The line: “Kicking your heels, dissecting sums” signifies life’s momentum in so many ways, adapting and preparing for huge moments of change.”
‘Able Eyes’ arrives just days before Surface Sound lands in full, marking Sea Fever’s follow-up to their 2021 debut Folding Lines. Written and recorded in Greater Manchester and Cheshire, and self-produced with support from Pet Shop Boys’ musical director Pete Gleadall, the new album will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital. Special vinyl editions include a bonus 7” featuring ‘Explanation,’ a collaboration with the late Denise Johnson of Primal Scream and Electronic.
