Manchester garage-rock quartet pyncher have released their fiery new single ‘Steely Dan,’ the first track from their upcoming debut EP Every Town Needs A Stranger, out October 10 via Crackedankles (YAANG).

A reimagined version of one of the band’s earliest live favorites—whose original cut was unexpectedly pulled from streaming—’Steely Dan’ bursts with guttural guitars, playful vocals, and fragmented storytelling. The track captures pyncher’s signature sound: bold, unpredictable, and driven by a restless energy that has fueled their rise in Manchester’s grassroots scene. Alongside the single, the band will release a 7” vinyl edition to give the song a more permanent presence.

Speaking more about the track, the band say:

“This song dates back to when we first started as a band, and it’s inspired by a short horror story written by our drummer, Jack Rainbow. As for the music, we’d all been on a night out and Sam woke up with this idea for a riff. We lived in a four bed house together, so it was just a matter of Sam knocking on each of our doors and working each part out, until we put the song together in our living room.”

Pyncher will celebrate the EP with a busy run of live shows, including headline dates this November and support slots with The Wytches in Birmingham and Birkenhead. Their tour kicks off September 27 at Sheffield’s Float Along Festival before hitting Southampton, London, Brighton, Bristol, and Manchester.

With ‘Steely Dan’ leading the charge, pyncher are pushing forward with a sound that is uncompromising and wholly their own, setting the stage for Every Town Needs A Stranger.
