Synth-pop trio Moon Kissed has released their new single ‘Cycles’ in anticipation of their forthcoming album, I’ll See You In New York, set to drop on September 20, 2024, via Final Girl Records.

‘Cycles’ explores the recurring disappointments of dating cis men. The band describes it as a song about the all-too-familiar traps of dating people who don’t see you as a full person, leading to feelings of invisibility and callousness. Despite its somber theme, the song transforms these experiences into a creatively exciting piece.

The original demo, composed by Em Sgouros, drew inspiration from a St. Vincent song and featured an 8-bit feel with glitchy, repetitive drumbeats and sizzling synths. As the track evolves, vocalist Khaya Cohen crafts a catchy hook for the chorus, while percussionist Eli Scarpati enhanced the drums, preparing the song for both live performances and recording.

Speaking on the song, the band says:

“‘Cycles’ is about the all too familiar traps of dating cis men. There’s something very liminal and drab about dating people who don’t see you as a full person. It can make you feel invisible, jaded, and even callous. Thankfully though, there’s something very creatively exciting about being scorned and calloused.”

With ‘Cycles,’ Moon Kissed continues to deliver their signature infectious energy and heartfelt lyrics, solidifying their place in the synth-pop scene and building anticipation for their upcoming album.
