Metric announce new album Romanticize The Dive and share ‘Victim Of Luck’ single
Metric have announced their tenth studio album Romanticize The Dive, arriving April 24, 2026, via Thirty Tigers, and shared the new single ‘Victim Of Luck,’ out now.
‘Victim Of Luck’ opens Romanticize The Dive and functions as both an introduction and a mission statement. The track traces Metric back to their earliest days, revisiting themes of vulnerability, ambition, and self-examination through the lens of experience. Built with the band’s signature balance of tension and melody, the song reflects on youth, creative hunger, and the uneasy relationship between success and identity. The release is accompanied by a music video that combines previously unseen archival footage of life on the road with new material, blending past and present into a single narrative.
Emily Haines states:
“The song ‘Victim Of Luck’ and really the entire album is about the romance of a less than perfect life. It’s about dropping the mask of self-consciousness and vanity. It was a long journey for me to get out of my own way and I wanted this song to be a rallying cry for that, better late than never. You can be as much a victim of good luck as bad. So when we started out yes we were broke and we were playing to ten people and there was nothing for us to fall back on but we refused to give up, and it’s not as though we’re all superstar billionaires now, but that was never what we were after. It turns out the grind is the thing you wouldn’t trade and the bonds you made can’t be faked. What we wanted is what we have and we’re not victims of anything. We dedicated our lives to each other and it’s the best feeling in the world.”
For Romanticize The Dive, the Toronto four-piece returned to where they first came together, recording in New York City at Electric Lady. The album reunites Metric with Fantasies and Synthetica producer Gavin Brown, alongside co-producers Jimmy Shaw and Liam O’Neil, with mixing by John O’Mahoney. The record draws on the chaos and possibility of the early-2000s indie rock scene while grounding it firmly in 2026.
‘Victim Of Luck’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
