Mad Iris turns suburban burnout into fuzzed-out catharsis on ‘Employee of the Month’

Toronto’s Mad Iris returns with their new single ‘Employee of the Month,’ a sharp-edged noise-rock release that captures the band’s mid-90s garage band aesthetic and DIY ethos.

‘Employee of the Month’ is a fuzzy noise-rock song about hating your job and loving your boyfriend. Pivoting between noise rock, punk, shoegaze, and grunge, the track channels the band’s influences while staying rooted in their own chemistry. Bratty lyrics sketch a suburban wasteland, gas station shifts, and long-awaited lunch breaks, balancing snark with vulnerability. Beneath the distortion and attitude lies a desire to be wanted and “kept around” by both an employer and a partner.

‘Employee of the Month’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
