Lee “Scratch” Perry and Mouse on Mars release ‘Rockcurry’ as the first single from their upcoming album Spatial, No Problem., arriving June 5 via Domino.
‘Rockcurry,’ the opening track from the album, reflects Perry’s time in Berlin working with electronic duo Mouse on Mars, blending motorik rhythms, free improvisation, digital glitches, and dub elements. The track moves fluidly between structured rhythm and abstract sound design, with Perry’s vocal presence cutting through in chants, murmurs, and fragmented phrases. While rooted in experimentation, the single still carries the weight of Perry’s reggae legacy, even as he intentionally avoided making a traditional reggae record. The accompanying video, directed by Studio Sparks, assembles photos from the recording sessions alongside drawings and found objects to create a collage-style visual tied to the track’s energy.
Jan St. Werner talks about the instinctual recording process:
“We hardly spoke about what we were doing. We met and got going. He was laughing a lot and we laughed along. We also cooked and ate fish soup and papayas.”
