knitting unveils reflective new single ‘Heaven’ ahead of debut album
Their upcoming debut LP, Some Kind of Heaven is set to drop on September 6th via Mint Records.
‘Heaven,’ the quasi-title track of the album, offers a grungy yet buoyant reflection on the concept of luck. Written by the band’s leader, Mischa Dempsey (they/them), during their recovery from top surgery, the track carries a deceptive complexity beneath its slacker-rock exterior. Drawing comparisons to bands like Ovlov and LVL UP, ‘Heaven’ showcases Knitting’s ability to craft catchy hooks while maintaining an ambitious DIY indie rock aesthetic.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Heaven,’ Dempsey shared:
“A friend of mine once told me that four-leaf clovers are pretty easy to find, all you have to do is keep your eyes peeled – apparently they grow in patches because they all come from a mutated set of roots. While I was recovering from top surgery I took daily walks around Parc Jeanne Mance with my eyes glued to the ground. I would crouch on the side of the path and look through patches of clovers but never managed to find a single one. This song is about the idea of perceiving yourself as having “bad luck”, and how ultimately it can limit you from really understanding yourself.”
With ‘Heaven’ now available, the band is gearing up for the album release on September 6th via Mint Records.
