Heavy Wild’s ‘Wasteland’ unleashes a lo-fi storm of resilience

London’s lo-fi rockers heavy wild have unleashed their visceral new single ‘Wasteland,’ a gritty harbinger of their debut EP Death Dreams, due out May 28, 2025.
‘Wasteland’ is a sonic tempest, blending distorted synths, shimmering guitars, and fuzzed-out vocals into a dark, driving anthem. The track dives deep into the wreckage of life, with lyrics that grapple with fractured relationships, arrests, and suicide, all propelled by a relentless energy that teeters on the edge of chaos. Drawing from the golden age of lo-fi—think early Wavves, Beach Fossils, and Crocodiles—heavy wild crafts a sound that’s both nostalgic and fiercely contemporary.
Harte offers insight into the track’s core:
“Ultimately, it’s an optimistic track. It’s about going through dark times and finding a way to keep on going. I had a bassline that I was just playing on loop and I started writing, and this montage of stuff that had happened over the years was flooding my mind, and the energy of that bassline just kept dragging more stuff up. I guess it’s me sort of processing some of those situations and reflecting on it all. It’s about standing in the wreckage of life and saying fuck it… just gotta keep going.”
With ‘Wasteland,’ heavy wild delivers a cathartic punch, proving their knack for turning personal turmoil into a universal rallying cry. The track is out now.
