Goldie Boutilier’s ‘The Lineup’: A heart-wrenching ‘sad disco’ journey

Canadian singer-songwriter Goldie Boutilier unveils her latest single, ‘The Lineup,’ the final preview from her forthcoming EP, The Actress, set for release on September 27, 2024, via ONErpm.
‘The Lineup’ is a haunting track that delves into the emotional depths of Boutilier’s personal experiences. Channeling her pain into a ‘sad disco’ sound, the song explores the trauma of her first encounter as an escort. With its melancholy groove and introspective lyrics, ‘The Lineup’ captures the uneasy blend of vulnerability and resilience that marks much of Boutilier’s music. The production skillfully mirrors the emotional tension of the lyrics, creating a soundscape that is both raw and polished, a testament to Boutilier’s unique artistic voice.
In her own words, Goldie shares the inspiration behind the song:
“I wrote this song about my first experience as an escort. I wanted the production to feel like a sad disco. I recall my first time in the lineup, my right leg was trembling so intensely I had to stand cross-legged, squeezing my thighs together. A week prior, I’d confided in a music producer about my financial struggles. He suggested escorting. I’m not sure I knew what an escort did.”
As the final single before the release of The Actress, ‘The Lineup’ sets the stage for what promises to be an emotionally charged and deeply personal EP.
