Known for her delicate yet impactful vocals, Cimmelli takes a unique approach in ‘love is scary,’ drawing from her love of horror films and blending it with raw, heartfelt emotion. The song’s lyrics explore the darker side of love, confronting the anxieties that often accompany deep feelings of connection. With a nostalgic sound reminiscent of Leslie Feist and June Carter, Cimmelli crafts a deeply personal song that feels both timeless and relevant. The track’s cover art, created by Cimmelli’s mother, Ann Gatto-Cimmelli, embodies this nostalgic yet eerie vibe, featuring a “ghostly” design that includes a red cloak—a nod to the artist’s childhood fascination with dressing up as a devil.
Reflecting on her mother’s contribution to the single’s artwork, Cimmelli shared:
“I can’t tell you how special it was to have my mother, Ann Gatto-Cimmelli, create the art for this track. After watching me dress up as a devil for most of my childhood, she already knew the story I was seeing inside of my head and perfectly translated it into this ghostly art piece. I wanted the art to feel gloomy and nostalgic, and she captured it to a T including my little red cloak I used to wear!”
