Ganser delivers a warped dance floor anthem with ‘Discount Diamonds’

Chicago art-punk trio Ganser shares their latest single, ‘Discount Diamonds,’ the second track revealed from their forthcoming album Animal Hospital, due out August 29th via Felte.
Following the punishing intensity of lead single ‘Black Sand,’ ‘Discount Diamonds’ finds Ganser exploring a more groove-forward direction. The track pulls inspiration from early DFA-style dance punk, blending a woozy rhythm section with the band’s signature angularity. Composed of Alicia Gaines, Brian Cundiff, and Sophie Sputnik, Ganser continues to evolve their post-punk palette, pushing the boundaries of their sound while staying anchored in driving beats and atmospheric tension.
Gaines says of the track:
“It’s a bit of a piss-take, isn’t it? There’s always someone up top saying what the kids are doing wrong, always a voice telling you the party’s over. I liked the idea of making a dance track that’s constantly questioning whether dancing’s still allowed. It’s got that suspicious energy, like too much coffee and not enough sleep. There’s humour in it, definitely, but also a bit of that end-of-the-night feeling when the lights come up and you’re not sure where you left your optimism.”
As Ganser gears up to release Animal Hospital, ‘Discount Diamonds’ serves as a compelling contrast to ‘Black Sand,’ showcasing the band’s versatility and wit.
