Northumbrian electro-folk musician Frankie Archer has shared her latest single, ‘Elsie Marley,’ a captivating track from her upcoming EP Pressure and Persuasion, set for release on October 4th.

‘Elsie Marley’ is a unique fusion of electro-folk elements, showcasing Archer’s ability to blend traditional Northumbrian themes with modern electronic production. The track features looping vocal phrases, rhythmic fiddle solos, and 808 kick snares, creating a mesmerizing soundscape. The song’s focus is on the iconic North East figure, Elsie Marley, a landlady known for her strong sense of self and ability to resist societal pressures.

Speaking about the character, Archer explains:

“Elsie Marley was a well-loved landlady who had all the gossip, all the booze, and knew how to have a good time. She’s someone I look up to because she knows her worth and isn’t gonna fall into that never-ending grind of work: ‘Elsie Marley’s grown so fine / she won’t get up to feed the swine / lies in bed til 8 or 9.’ You go, Elsie.”

‘Elsie Marley’ is out now.
