Flyte teams up with Grammy-winning Aimee Mann on apocalyptic new single ‘Alabaster’

The UK duo enlists indie rock legend for emotional centerpiece of upcoming album Between You and Me.
UK band Flyte has joined forces with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Aimee Mann for their latest single ‘Alabaster,’ an emotionally charged duet that serves as the centerpiece of their forthcoming album Between You and Me, due August 29th via Nettwerk.
The collaboration weaves Flyte’s intimate storytelling with Mann’s indie rock-laced Americana vocals, creating what the band describes as a “poignant and harmonically rich duet.” The track explores themes of fantasy and romance amid apocalyptic imagery, matching its heavy subject matter with an equally intense musical arrangement.
On ‘Alabaster,’ Flyte’s Will Taylor says:
“We began writing Alabaster with Miya Folick in Los Angeles about a fantasy affair in the midst of an apocalypse. We finished it on the road and back home in London. It’s easy to feel like we’re in the midst of the end times already, so it was effective inspiration and encouraged the raging fuzz guitar sound to lead the way musically. We wanted it to sound like the song was burning down.”
The choice to feature Mann wasn’t arbitrary – Taylor notes the importance of creating a dialogue between two voices, similar to their previous collaboration with Laura Marling on ‘Tough Love.’ For the duo, having Mann’s distinctive voice on a Flyte track felt both surreal and perfect, connecting them to one of their musical influences.
‘Alabaster’ joins previously released tracks ‘I’m So Down,’ ‘Hurt People,’ ‘Emily and Me,’ and ‘I’m Not There’ from the upcoming record.
