Fake Dad releases explosive grunge single ‘ON/OFF’
Los Angeles-based indie rock duo Fake Dad has unveiled their latest single, ‘ON/OFF,’ a raw and cathartic exploration of emotional overwhelm and overstimulation.
‘ON/OFF’ channels bottled-up rage and sexual frustration through grunge-infused textures. Andrea de Varona’s haunting, airy vocals paint a vivid picture of burnout and dissociation, narrating experiences of bedrotting, doomscrolling, and the numbing effect of modern overstimulation. The song builds from a sparse, dissociative melody into an eruption of rage, mirroring the emotional crescendo of trying to escape the chaos of glowing screens and incessant notifications. Featuring guitarist Jeff Frantom (Blondshell), the track is a standout blend of raw emotion and musical craftsmanship.
De Varona says about the song:
“This was written when I couldn’t get out of bed or leave my apartment. Time really bleeds together. When you ignore feelings for long enough you become overwhelmed by and disconnected from them—both numb and overactivated. This song compares that numbness to its direct companion, doomscrolling serotonin burnout. The modern world wants us to be overstimulated and ‘turned off,’ this song is me pleading to be turned back on.”
With ‘ON/OFF,’ Fake Dad continues to carve out a unique space in the indie rock scene. The track offers a powerful preview of their forthcoming EP, Holly Wholesome and the Slut Machine, hinting at the bold themes and sonic exploration to come in 2025.
