Drop Nineteens share ‘Mayfield’ from long-lost 1991 album

Drop Nineteens have unveiled ‘Mayfield,’ the final preview from their upcoming album 1991, set to release on February 7th, 2025, via Wharf Cat Records.
‘Mayfield,’ like the rest of 1991, captures the youthful ambition of a band on the cusp of their breakthrough. The track swells with layered guitars, lo-fi charm, and buried vocal harmonies, exemplifying the sound that earned Drop Nineteens comparisons to shoegaze icons Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. These recordings, created on an 8-track reel-to-reel in dorm rooms, were widely circulated as bootlegs among fans and are now remastered for an official release.
Reflecting on the project, frontman Greg Ackell shares:
“These songs were written and recorded in 1991 on an 8-track reel to reel largely in our dorm rooms. We called them demos at the time, but now they’re just unreleased Drop Nineteens songs that never benefited from the fidelity of a recording studio. We remastered them, some 33 years later for this release, but they still evoke our infancy as a band.”
‘Mayfield’ serves as a poignant glimpse into Drop Nineteens’ formative years, offering both long-time fans and newcomers a chance to experience the raw energy and textured melodies that laid the groundwork for their iconic debut.
