Vienna indie-surf trio DIVES release their second and final single of 2024, ‘Happier,’ via Siluh Records, ahead of a highly anticipated homecoming Christmas show.

‘Happier’ marks a wintry contrast to the power-pop energy of DIVES’ summer single, ‘Be Fine.’ The new release is charged with bittersweet melodies and shimmering, blue-sky-bright production that encapsulates the dualities of melancholy and optimism. The trio explores themes of self-dialogue and personal transformation, asking profound questions about identity and well-being. With its reflective tone, ‘Happier’ continues to showcase DIVES’ ability to deliver emotionally resonant indie rock.

In the band’s words:

“The song deals with the fear of standing in front of the changed self and entering into self-dialogue: How do you look at yourself when you no longer recognise yourself in the mirror? How do you talk to yourself when you suddenly realise that you can no longer be the same person you used to be? When you have to admit that you haven’t been well for a long time? The song title ‘Happier’ refers to a past and future actual state and becomes a programmatic goal. I see you and I know that you exist in a happier version that will come again.”

Since their formation in 2016, DIVES has made waves across Europe with two albums, an EP, and tours alongside acts like Courtney Barnett, LA Witch, and Franz Ferdinand. With ‘Happier,’ the band continues their ascent, offering an introspective anthem that promises to resonate with fans old and new.
