Devarrow unveils playful single ‘Bus Baby’ ahead of upcoming album Heart Shaped Rock
Canadian singer-songwriter Devarrow has released his latest single, ‘Bus Baby,’ offering listeners a final glimpse into his forthcoming album, Heart Shaped Rock, set for release on October 4, 2024, via Paper Bag Records.
‘Bus Baby’ is a lively and whimsical track that blends Devarrow’s signature folk-infused indie sound with a fresh twist. Inspired by an inside joke with his partner, the song humorously details his affection for his converted school bus, which now doubles as a mobile studio. The upbeat track introduces a drum machine—a first for the artist—as a nod to its solitary conception, marking a shift in his creative process.
Devarrow explains:
“It’s also the only song on the record to use a drum machine – a choice that comes from the fact that I was writing the song alone, and needed a steady beat to accompany me as I worked out the parts of the song.” he says of the song’s conception “Instead of fully replacing the programmed drums with Evan’s real ones, I decided to leave in the drum machine as a reminder of the song’s origins. Another fun fact is that the bells you hear in the bridge are in fact me holding my two kittens up to the mic, and shaking their little collars.”
As the final teaser before Heart Shaped Rock drops, ‘Bus Baby’ showcases Devarrow’s playful storytelling and inventive approach, offering fans a joyful ride through his imaginative world.
