Das Koolies, the Welsh quartet of ex-Super Furry Animals members, have dropped their latest single ‘White Star,’ a synth-dream pop track that doubles as a sharp anti-war statement, out now.

‘White Star’ melds dreamy, melodic electro-grooves with a biting critique of global power structures built on lies and bloodshed. As the third track and second full single from their forthcoming album Pando, it sees Huw ‘Bunf’ Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Daf Ieuan, and Guto Pryce tackling the murky collusion of spies, money, and fabricated conflicts. Beneath its slick, tender ballad surface lies a simmering rage against the war machine and its beneficiaries—those who profit while civilians pay the price. Following the debauched bounce of ‘Som Bom Magnifico’ and the ambient drift of ‘Thoughtless,’ ‘White Star’ positions Das Koolies as sonic peacekeepers, wielding harmony as a weapon against corruption.

Guitarist Huw ‘Bunf’ Bunford says:

“It’s an anti-war song, picking on ‘red flag’ events, like The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident, which tell us time after time that the war machine doesn’t need the truth to get in the way of lucrative violence. An attack on a US warship that never happened spiralled to benefit only the death industry.

“Collusion between spies and money men. The way the US empire was really built and now unravels before our eyes, now dancing round the pole of Trump’s foreign doctrine. More civilians than soldiers ever die. They’re so unsophisticated today. Maybe this is the difference between our first album, DK.01, and Pando… now we’re employing drone technology to shooting happiness and fear in a more targeted manner. We come in peace and bring love.”

‘White Star’ is out now—give it a listen and let its deceptive calm pull you into its deeper fury.
