Coral Grief shares dreamy new single ‘Paint By Number’ ahead of debut album Air Between Us

Seattle’s Coral Grief continues its rise within the Pacific Northwest indie scene with the release of their newest single, ‘Paint By Number.’ The track offers a bright, rhythmically rich preview of their forthcoming debut album Air Between Us, due out July 18, 2025, via Suicide Squeeze Records (digital), Anxiety Blanket Records (vinyl), and Den Tapes (cassette).
‘Paint By Number’ captures Coral Grief’s balance of hazy introspection and playful clarity. Anchored by Cam Hancock’s propulsive tom-heavy drums and elevated by Sam Fason’s expansive guitar textures, the track provides ample room for Lena Farr-Morrissey’s vocals to deliver existential musings with a subtle sense of whimsy. Through a clever call-and-response structure, Farr-Morrissey sings, “Disaster, back together, what is worth our breath?”—a question both weighty and offhandedly charming, reflecting the band’s gift for threading optimism through the darkness.
Discussing the song’s origin, Farr-Morrissey explains:
“For this song, we started playing around with rhythmic elements that were fun to bounce off of each other. It developed into a contemplation on learning how to bring liveliness & color into bleak times, which is a constant effort these days.”
With ‘Paint By Number,’ Coral Grief offers a moving and melodically rich preview of Air Between Us.
