Cathedrale delves into temptation with lead single ‘The Setting Sun’
Toulouse-based post-punk quartet Cathedrale unveils ‘The Setting Sun,’ a mesmerizing lead single from their upcoming fifth album, Poison, set for release on February 14, 2025. Inspired by Baudelaire’s poem ‘Poison,’ the track marks a bold introduction to the album’s shadowy themes of addiction, temptation, and ruin.
Unfolding over slow, hypnotic rhythms, ‘The Setting Sun’ immerses listeners in an atmosphere that balances heaviness with a modern post-punk edge. The song offers a free interpretation of Baudelaire’s darkly poetic themes, capturing the melancholic allure of destructive pleasures and the escape they provide. With its sharp, immersive sound, the single paves the way for the tension-filled universe of Poison, where light and shadow coexist.
“When we wrote ‘The Setting Sun,’ we already sensed that the album’s theme would revolve around poison. Gradually, we became more comfortable with this overarching idea and theme for the album. Naturally, we couldn’t miss the chance to adapt Baudelaire’s poem and make it our own.”
Recorded at Chez Nini studio in Brussels with producer Mathieu Versini, ‘The Setting Sun’ is out now.
