Grand Rapids-based duo Cal in Red has released the music video for their latest single ‘Frontside,’ offering a final preview of their much-anticipated debut album Low Low, set to drop on August 30th via B3SCI Records.

Directed by Dave Daniele, the video for ‘Frontside’ captures the carefree essence of a spontaneous summer day in Michigan, perfectly complementing the track’s breezy, sun-soaked sound. While the visual exudes a laidback vibe, the song carries a deeper, more reflective undertone. ‘Frontside’ finds Kendall Wright, one half of the brother duo, contemplating the complexities of growing older, revisiting memories of youth, and grappling with the passage of time.

“‘Frontside’ is me reflecting on youth, past relationships, and the passage of time. I tried to share all these micro-moments I experienced growing up. A lot of our songs have a healthy dose of anxiety woven into the lyrics about this lifestyle we’re living. I’m getting older now. Is it time to get serious? What does that even look like? It would’ve been easy to make this song a nostalgia-bomb but I feel like the ‘now’ of it all is just as important…appreciating the present in relation to the past. The song ends with a sort of blissful acceptance. We all want to be loved and that looks different throughout life. That’s all there is, the last trick you land.”

‘Frontside’ is just one of the ten tracks on Low Low, an album that took the brothers four years to craft. The LP, which blends elements of ’90s indie rock, ’80s nostalgia, and even some twang, showcases the duo’s ability to experiment while maintaining their signature melodic touch. With its provocative charm and thoughtful lyrics, ‘Frontside’ is a standout track that sets the stage for what promises to be a captivating debut album.
