Philadelphia-based artist BATTLEFLAGG returns with ‘Ghosts,’ an expansive indie rock meets synth-pop track out now via Resolute Juke.

Produced by Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex), ‘Ghosts’ serves as the lead single from BATTLEFLAGG’s upcoming EP Solastalgia, due January 7, 2025. Inspired by the concept of solastalgia—a term coined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht to describe the distressing homesickness felt when one’s environment changes irrevocably—the song reflects on the evanescence of home, life, and memories. It blends lush synths and atmospheric rock elements to create a soundscape that is both intimate and grand.

“Solastalgia is defined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht in his 2005 article on the subject as ‘the homesickness you have when you are still at home,’ where you may find your home environment changing in distressing ways. It is a lived evanescence of what you have always known, like standing in one place as the life, memories, and places fade away. Unlike nostalgia, solastalgia is distressing and is often attributed to environmental or other changes completely out of one’s control.”

‘Ghosts’ is a stirring introduction to Solastalgia and a testament to Hartwig’s ability to craft music that resonates deeply with the human experience.
