St. Panther returns with soulful new EP Strange World

East Los Angeles artist St. Panther, the recording project of Dani Bojorges-Giraldo (they/them), returns with Strange World, a deeply personal and genre-blending new EP released via drink sum wtr. Out now, the collection marks St. Panther’s first release since their 2020 breakout These Days and represents a creative rebirth for the Mexican/Colombian producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist.
Produced by: Dani Bojorges-Giraldo and Chris McClenney
Musically, Strange World moves fluidly between piano-driven introspection and rhythm-forward groove, highlighting St. Panther’s remarkable versatility as both a songwriter and producer. Their voice — raspy yet tender, charismatic yet grounded — anchors each song in lived experience. The record’s production, split between their modest Boyle Heights home studio and Haven Sound in Burbank blends organic instrumentation with slick, modern textures. The result is a cohesive yet exploratory sound that feels both timeless and forward-thinking.
The EP opens with ‘Brand New,’ a sparse piano vignette that reintroduces St. Panther with newfound openness. “Before, I was a little bit more guarded to let people into the deep space of my story and my life…I’m ready to open a completely new door. I’m letting the outside world into that,” they explain. That sense of honesty extends into ‘American Dreams,’ where slow marching drums and contemplative guitar underscore a meditation on ambition, technology, and survival as a first-generation immigrant and trans person in the U.S. Elsewhere, ‘Strange World’ featuring Rae Khalil and co-written with Erik Bodin of Little Dragon — bursts with life, fusing organ stabs, shuffling bass, and finger snaps into a soulful groove about hope and connection. The lounge-inflected ‘The Deal’ channels D’Angelo’s spirit in its tender rumination on transformation through heartbreak, while ‘Whoever Said Silence is Peace’ closes the record with a haunting piano motif and generational reflection.
St. Panther states:
“I’ve spent so many years making music and making noise endlessly and kind of just shouting into this echo chamber that never ends. But I took this long pause to really listen to my village, listen to the needs of my community, and the people around me. We’re all feeling the weight of the world on our shoulders a bit. We want hope, you know, for our listeners, we want people to feel heard and that there’s someone out there representing this feeling.”
