Grandbrothers transform their identity with Elsewhere

Grandbrothers return with Elsewhere, a bold reinvention that pushes beyond, out now via their newly launched label _and_others.
Produced by: Grandbrothers & Evan Gildersleeve
Across four acclaimed albums, pianist Erol Sarp and engineer Lukas Vogel built an identity around the singular instrument of the grand piano, extracting every possible texture through custom-built devices. While their past work blurred the lines between minimalism, ambient, and acoustic techno, the duo began to feel confined by their self-imposed rules. With Elsewhere, Grandbrothers finally open the door to analog synthesizers, drum loops, and vintage textures, ushering in a fresh sonic era.
The shift reveals itself immediately in the pulsating breakbeat and layered synths of ‘We Collide,’ the record’s lead single and one of its earliest compositions. Tested live throughout 2024, the track validated their new direction as audiences embraced its surging rhythms. Elsewhere continues this momentum with ‘Velvet Roads,’ a dynamic piece culminating in a throbbing house beat, and ‘Cypress,’ which channels a moody downtempo energy. Tracks like ‘Fable’ and ‘Where Else’ strike a balance between their signature piano melodies and newly embraced electronic elements, capturing both intimacy and power.
Erol Sarp states:
“What we really appreciate about Rupert’s take is how naturally he picked up on the energy and movement of the track. He really understood what we were going for – the dynamics, the transitions, that inner tension building slowly throughout. And he found a visual language that translates the energy of the music into motion.”
More than just a stylistic pivot, Elsewhere is an invitation to experience Grandbrothers in a new light. By weaving together their classical roots with festival-ready beats, Sarp and Vogel have created an album designed for physical spaces and communal energy. With Elsewhere, Grandbrothers remind listeners that evolution isn’t just possible—it’s vital.
