Nashville experimental duo Total Wife — the project of Luna Kupper and Ash Richter — have released their new album Come Back Down, out now via Julia’s War Recordings. The ten-track record showcases the band’s ability to merge shoegaze, experimental pop, and electronic elements into something immersive and wholly their own.

Produced by: Luna Kupper

Come Back Down is a study in contrasts, born out of late-night recording sessions where Kupper blurred the line between dream and lucidity. Every sound on the record builds from recycled material — a guitar transformed into synth tones, vocal fragments lifted from an unreleased Elliott Smith cover, layers folding back in on themselves like fractals. The result is a dense yet accessible body of work that strikes a balance between experimentation and clarity.

Richter’s lyrics lean into both intimacy and universality, written during the isolation of the pandemic. Tracks like ‘peaches’ use storms as metaphors for emotional distance, while ‘still asleep’ explores the euphoric highs and creeping paranoia of life on the road. Across the album, Richter weaves in imagery of childhood solitude, natural landscapes, and moments of transcendence, grounding the songs in a sense of emotional and psychological exploration.

Kupper explains:

“This album is made from a single thought unfolding endlessly. I was always trying to remind myself of the initial idea and always fall back on how I felt when I first fell in love with recording.”

With Come Back Down, Total Wife has created an expansive and deeply personal statement that redefines the possibilities of modern shoegaze.

Standout Songs: ‘peaches,’ ‘naoisa,’ and ‘still asleep.’
