Scarlet Rae balances vulnerability and strength on No Heavy Goodbyes

Known for blending understated acoustic arrangements with shoegaze-inspired distortion, Scarlet Rae, the Los Angeles-born and New York-based songwriter, has released her new EP No Heavy Goodbyes, via Bayonet Records.
Produced by: Jordan Lawlor
Written during a period of grief and self-reflection, No Heavy Goodbyes unfolds over five songs that balance spectral vocals with jagged textures. Rae began shaping the EP as acoustic snippets shared on TikTok before fully fleshing them out as demos in her Brooklyn apartment. The final recordings were completed in Los Angeles with producer Jordan Lawlor, known for his work with M83 and Oberhofer. Rae played most of the instruments herself, citing Placebo as a major influence in her approach to the EP’s layered intensity.
Tracks like opener ‘A World Where She Left Me Out’ and ‘The Reason I Could Sleep Forever’ tackle sorrow and solitude with unflinching honesty, while December 2024 single ‘Bleu’ stands as a haunting tribute to Rae’s late sibling. The EP closes with ‘Call Off The Day,’ a meditative reflection that encapsulates Rae’s ability to find beauty within grief.
With No Heavy Goodbyes, Scarlet Rae transforms loss into luminous soundscapes well worth the listen.
Standout Songs: ‘The Reason I Could Sleep Forever,’ and ‘Blue.’
