Charles James & The Rise share new single ‘Promises’ ahead of debut album

Donegal folk collective Charles James & The Rise unveil ‘Promises,’ a sweeping new single and the third look into their upcoming debut album Crossing the Bar.
Deeply meditative and steeped in the band’s cinematic-folk sound, ‘Promises’ explores the complex aftermath of broken relationships and the acceptance that change, once set in motion, is often irreversible. Opening with gentle finger-picking before building into a lush crescendo of strings, dulcimer, and choral arrangements, the track is a late-night reckoning that steadily rises into dawn.
Frontman Charles James notes the track’s long journey to release, saying:
“‘Promises’ is a song that’s lived with me for a long time. It runs in a similar vein to ‘Sailor’ and came from the same writing period. At its core, it’s about accepting that when a relationship—of any kind—is damaged, it’s changed forever, no matter how much time tries to mend it.”
‘Promises’ is available on all streaming platforms now, with vinyl pre-orders for Crossing the Bar launching July 14 via charlesjamesandtherise.com.
