Into a Pretty Room captures the raw emotion of its creators, Billy Woodhouse and Elliot Dryden, through 14 tracks that balance tender folk meditations, electronic textures, and Elliot Smith-inspired Americana. The album is a collage of reimagined demos, spontaneous session standouts, and delicately crafted instrumentals, all born from shared experiences in Woodhouse’s Newcastle bedroom studio. Tracks like ‘Game of Zeroes’ offer inspirational reflections on life’s shortcomings, while ‘Barnyard,’ a 20-minute creation, weaves sadness and beauty into a swirling tapestry of looped guitars and intertwined vocals.
The duo’s process—infused with rounds of Fortnite and pints of beer—embodies the intimacy and camaraderie that anchor this release.
Woodhouse shares his thoughts on the genesis of ‘Barnyard’:
“When Elliot and I first started properly sitting down to make a record, he came with the most basic little guitar riff. I recorded it and then looped it on a Logic track. We had a few beers and just made some mad shit on it. We did it in like 20 minutes, and it’s probably my favorite song on the album.”
While Into a Pretty Room reflects moments of deep personal loss and the struggle to move forward, it remains a hopeful record. Woodhouse and Dryden’s decade-long friendship shines through in the music, creating an album that is as much about shared resilience as it is about individual pain.
