Emily Bowen explores honesty and emotion in Hate Me for This

At just 20 years old, Danish-American artist Emily Bowen has unveiled her debut album, Hate Me for This. The deeply personal 9-track collection feels like an intimate diary, weaving raw emotion, heartfelt confessions, moments of humor, and unfiltered vulnerability into every track.
Produced by: Rasmus Søegren and Emily Bowen
The album captures the essence of Bowen’s journey through the firsts of life. From the nostalgic folk-pop melodies of ‘Better Days’ to the hard-hitting alternative energy of ‘Room 17’ and the dreamy tones of ‘I Love You,’ Bowen’s music is organic and intuitive. Her lyrics display a strong sense of empathy and self-awareness, reflecting the loneliness and humor of not fitting into societal norms while pursuing her creative ambitions.
The standout track ‘Agnes,’ which doubles as the album’s lead single, is a bittersweet reflection of a fleeting yet meaningful encounter Bowen had while backpacking in Europe.
She recounts the moment:
“I met Agnes a couple summers ago when I was backpacking around Europe. We sat on a couch and talked for three hours-sucked into each other’s worlds in that moment that only the two of us shared and had together. Agnes moved on to Paris, and we’ve been strangers to each other ever since. But I took the moment along with me, bittersweet and beautiful, like the lifelong exercise of being honest with yourself.”
Produced alongside Rasmus Søegren and released via OPTUR Records / One Seven Music, Hate Me for This, highlights Bowen’s immense drive and creativity. With its distinct tone and multifaceted soundscapes, the album establishes Emily Bowen as a compelling new voice in indie pop.
