This week we’re highlighting new music from Oso Oso, Rosalía, and Charli XCX.

Oso Oso – sore thumb

It has been quite some time since we have been this excited to listen to a new album. And honestly, we didn’t even know it was happening until shortly before. In a surprise move, Oso Oso’s Jade Lilitri announced via Twitter that they would be releasing the band’s follow-up to their emo-pop classic, Basking In The Glow. sore thumb picks up right where Basking In The Glow left off. Catchy hooks, rolling guitars, and the band’s fresh and friendly vibe come across with ease on the 13 tracks. It hasn’t all been fun and games, though. Soon after recording the tracks, Oso Oso guitarist Tavish Maloney suddenly had passed away. Lilitri had to make the tough decision to move forward with the songs as they were recorded or have them sit in a vault for the foreseeable future. Lilitri chose the former. “The making of this record is now a memory of a time that I hold closer to my heart than anything,” Lilitri said in a press release. “Regardless of how I feel about these songs in the years to come, I am so happy this exists. Thanks for listening. Be decent.”

Standout Songs: computer exploder, nothing to do, father tracy, fly on the wall, pensacola, nothing says love like hydration

Rosalía – Motomami

Recorded at the world-famous Electric Lady in New York City, Rosalía’s third album Motomami sees the Spanish singer and songwriter explore her “most personal and confessional album so far.” Sonically, the album flows fluidly between multiple genres with ease. Motomami strikes a perfect balance of current pop sounds combined with traditional Hispanic rhythms. As a result, Motomami sees Rosalía cement herself in the upper-echelon of today’s popular music and performers. The 16 tracks keep you guessing, but one thing is for sure; the world is hers for the taking.

Standout Songs: CANDY, LA FAMA (with The Weeknd), CHICKEN TERIYAKI, HENTAI, MOTOMAMI, DIABLO, CUUUUuuuuuute, LA COMBI VERSACE (feat. Tokischa), SAKURA

Charli XCX – Crash

Charli XCX has always embraced her ever-growing pop sensibilities. With CRASH, her fifth full-length album, the hyper-pop songstress has found a formula that fully embraces modern pop in all its commercial glory. CRASH is a fuller, fearless, and fascinating listen. The album may be her final album to be released under contract with Atlantic Records but it is by no means the end. We expect the English singer and songwriter to come out on the other side even more dedicated and determined to achieve all of her goals.

Standout Songs: Crash, New Shapes (feat. Christine and the Queens, Caroline Polachek), Good Ones, Beg For You (feat. Rina Sawayama), Baby, Every Rule
