This week we highlight new music from Cassandra Jenkins, Robert Plant with Alison Krauss, and Rezz.

Cassandra Jenkins – (An Overview on) An Overview on Phenomenal Nature

Cassandra Jenkins’ An Overview on Phenomenal Nature emerged in the early moments of 2021 (February) so this isn’t completely new material. (An Overview on) An Overview on Phenomenal Nature is a curated collection of demoes and outtakes that laid the groundwork for the original collection. The new material offers the listener initial thoughts for the songs that they have come to know and love. Ms. Jenkins describes it best on her Bandcamp website, “(An Overview On) An Overview On Phenomenal Nature bookends Cassandra Jenkins’ musical output this year with nuance, coloring in the corners, and giving us another window into her ever-expanding world of chance encounters, experiences, and sonic textures. They glimmer like the sun’s changing patterns on the wall as a new day gets going.”

Standout Songs: Michelangelo (demo), Ms. Cassandra, American Spirit, Hard Drive (security guard)

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss – Raise the Roof

Raise the Roof, the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 collaborative album by rock singer Robert Plant and bluegrass-country singer Alison Krauss, has finally arrived. 14-years in the making, the album is filled with blues, country, and traditional folk covers that span decades. The album includes one original track (‘High and Lonesome’). Written by Plant and produced by longtime producer, T Bone Burnett, ‘High and Lonesome’ is the apex of the pairing on the album. It’s a track that sees Plant take the lead with Krauss on backup. On it Plant pines for his lost love, “And if I should bare my soul, Would she still care for me?”

As for the two collaborators, they pick up right where they left off in 2007. Krauss and Plant effortlessly combine into a powerful force due to their mutual respect. In Raise the Roof, you’ll hear two professionals with energy and charisma on full display.

Standout Songs: Go Your Way, Can’t Let Go, You Led Me To The Wrong, High and Lonesome

Rezz – Spiral

From the first bars of ‘Chemical Bond,’ you know this isn’t gonna be your typical EDM album. With Spiral, Rezz has evolved into a dj/producer that enjoys pushing the envelope on what electronic music can be. Her hypnotic basslines coupled with electrifying vocals by some of the industry’s biggest names (fknsyd, PVRIS, Dove Cameron) sets this album apart from her contemporaries. Did we mention this album has massive bass? Teaming up with Deathpact, Rezz continues to evolve sonically, but some things will never change… like her relentless attention to every detail while controlling the dancefloor.

Standout Songs: Chemical Bond, Sacrificial, Taste of You
