3 New Albums Out This Week You Should Listen to Now: The Cure, Mount Eerie, and Leaving Time
There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.
This week we’re highlighting new music from The Cure, Mount Eerie, and Leaving Time.
The Cure – Songs of a Lost World
Songs of a Lost World, the Cure’s fourteenth studio album, released on November 1, 2024, marks the band’s first new material since 4:13 Dream in 2008. Solely composed by Robert Smith, it is their first album since 1985 to feature only Smith’s songwriting and the first since Pornography (1982) with only eight tracks. Reeves Gabrels joins on guitar for his first studio appearance with the band, alongside longtime members. The album, celebrated for its dark sound, emotive lyrics, and Smith’s powerful vocals, has been hailed by critics as the band’s finest work since Disintegration (1989) and its most personal since Wish (1992).
Standout Songs: ‘Alone,’ ‘A Fragile Thing,’ ‘Warsong,’ ‘All I Ever Am,’ and ‘Endsong.’

Mount Eerie – Night Palace
Night Palace, Phil Elverum’s latest 26-track album, marks a reflective return to the analog fuzz and intimate, atmospheric worlds he crafted with projects like The Glow pt. 2 and Mount Eerie. Recorded in his woodland studio from 2022-2024, Night Palace combines raw soundscapes and ambient noise with Elverum’s meditative, grounded lyricism, exploring themes of resilience, wonder, and reorientation after trauma. This 80-minute journey blurs the line between home and studio, merging the hard realities of life with a deep sense of awe. The vinyl release features two LPs and a 62″x43″ poster with imagery and lyrics, embodying the album’s immersive experience.
Standout Songs: ‘Night Palace,’ ‘Broom of Wind,’ ‘I Walk, Wind & Fog,’ and ‘I Saw Another Bird.’
