There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from Brandi Carlile, Home Counties, and Joyer.

Brandi Carlile – Returning To Myself

Brandi Carlile returns with her eighth studio album, Returning to Myself, out not via Interscope and Lost Highway. Created at Long Pond Studio in New York and Henson Studios in Hollywood with producers Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner, and Justin Vernon, the album finds Carlile reclaiming her own voice after years devoted to collaborations with icons like Joni Mitchell and Elton John. Written in the aftermath of Mitchell’s Hollywood Bowl comeback and her joint 2025 album Who Believes in Angels?, the record channels reflection and renewal, moving from the tender ‘Anniversary’ to the politically charged ‘Church & State’ and the haunting title track. Influenced by Emmylou Harris’s Wrecking Ball, Carlile explores themes of humanity, activism, and self-acceptance, offering one of her most personal and spiritually centered works to date.

Standout Songs: ‘Returning To Myself,’ ‘Human,’ ‘A War With Time,’ and ‘Church & State.’

Home Counties – Humdrum

East London’s Home Counties return with their second album, Humdrum, out now via Submarine Cat Records. Produced by Al Doyle of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip, the record finds the band refining their sound into something sleeker and more dance-oriented, while maintaining their sharp wit and restless energy. Across ten tracks, Humdrum explores themes of fractured communication, quiet resentment, and self-sabotage through the contrasting vocals of Will Harrison and Lois Kelly. Songs like ‘Take You Back,’ ‘Roundabout,’ and the title track dissect the comedy and chaos of human interaction, while ‘When In Rome’ and ‘Meet Me In The Flat Roof’ stretch into groove-driven, synth-heavy territory shaped by Doyle’s production. Written in the summer of 2024 and recorded that autumn in East London, Humdrum captures the unease of modern life with wiry guitars, pulsating rhythms, and bittersweet humor—marking a confident evolution for one of the UK’s most exciting live acts.

Standout Songs: ‘Take You Back,’ ‘Humdrum,’ ‘Spain,’ and ‘Roundabout.’

Joyer – On The Other End of the Line…

East Coast indie rock duo Joyer, made up of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, return with their latest album On the Other End of the Line…, out now via Julia’s War Recordings. Written amid major life changes—Nick’s move from Brooklyn to Philadelphia, Shane’s from Boston to Brooklyn—the record grapples with distance, disconnection, and the search for balance while touring nonstop. Produced by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr at Palisade Studios in Chicago, the album pairs introspective lyricism with fuzzy guitars and experimental textures. Across ten tracks, including singles ‘Cure,’ ‘Spell,’ and ‘At the Movies,’ Joyer reflects on growth and uncertainty with an undercurrent of warmth and hope, finding clarity in motion and meaning in the space between.

Standout Songs: ‘I Know Your Secret,’ ‘Cure,’ ‘Glare of the Beer Can,’ and ‘At The Movies.’
