There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from Sudan Archives, Skullcrusher, and Tame Impala.

Sudan Archives – THE BPM

Sudan Archives, the genre-defying project of singer, songwriter, and violinist Brittney Parks, has released her third studio album The BPM via Stones Throw Records. Following her acclaimed 2022 record Natural Brown Prom Queen, the album dives deep into the pulse of Detroit and Chicago club culture, blending experimental beatwork, Jersey club, and diverse dance styles. Inspired by her parents’ roots in Michigan and Illinois, Parks recorded much of The BPM in those cities alongside close collaborators, including her sister, cousin, and best friend. Adopting the persona “Gadget Girl,” Parks explores themes of technology, hyper-independence, and self-discovery through a futuristic lens, while also touching on mental health, love, and heartbreak. Preceded by singles like ‘Dead,’ ‘My Type,’ and ‘Ms. Pac Man,’ The BPM captures Parks’ evolution as she turns introspection into rhythm and emotion into movement.

Standout Songs: ‘DEAD,’ ‘A BUG”S LIFE,’ ‘MY TYPE,’ ‘A COMPUTER LOVE,’ and ‘MS. PAC MAN.’

Skullcrusher – And Your Song Is Like A Circle

New York-based artist Helen Ballentine, known as Skullcrusher, returns with her sophomore album And Your Song Is Like a Circle, out now via Dirty Hit. Recorded over several years after her acclaimed debut Quiet the Room, the album drifts between vaporous folk and crystalline electronics, exploring the fleeting nature of life and the cyclical patterns of grief. Inspired by the surreal worlds of David Lynch and Hayao Miyazaki, Ballentine creates an atmosphere where loss becomes tangible and beauty feels both infinite and momentary—a meditative journey that, like its title, ends where it begins.

Standout Songs: ‘March,’ ‘Dragon,’ and ‘Exhale.’

Tame Impala – Deadbeat

Kevin Parker continues to defy expectations on Tame Impala’s fifth album, Deadbeat. Conceived along the Californian coast but spiritually rooted in his Perth beginnings, the record finds Parker trading his lush psych-rock maximalism for sleek, dance-driven minimalism. Inspired by oceanic solitude, he channels that tranquility into pulsing, 4-on-the-floor, club-ready euphoria—melding introspection with rhythm. From the haunted disco of ‘Dracula’ to the shimmering synth-pop of ‘Piece of Heaven’ and the expansive techno swirl of ‘Ethereal Connection,’ Parker merges vulnerability and motion in equal measure.

Standout Songs: ‘My Old Ways,’ ‘Dracula,’ ‘Loser,’ ‘Obselete,’ and ‘End of Summer.’
