There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from Runnner, Blood Orange, and CMAT.

Runnner – A Welcome Kind Of Weakness

Runnner’s sophomore album A Welcome Kind of Weakness finds Noah Weinman transforming physical injury and heartbreak into his most expansive work yet. Written during months of recovery from a torn achilles and the end of a relationship. The album embraces vulnerability while pushing his sound beyond the homespun intimacy of past releases. For the first time, Weinman recorded in a full studio with his touring band. The result is a widescreen, high-fidelity take on indie rock that recalls early 2000s giants like Coldplay and Death Cab for Cutie. Songs like ‘Achilles And’ and ‘Spackle’ balance raw self-examination with soaring arrangements. Tracks such as ‘Coinstar’ and ‘Split’ wrestle with dualities of control, resolve, nostalgia, and growth. By leaning into uncertainty, Weinman creates his most present and powerful statement yet. The album reminds listeners that even in stillness, momentum returns.

Standout Songs: ‘Achilles And,’ ‘Spackle,’ ‘Chamomile,’ ‘Coinstar,’ ‘Get Real Sleep,’ and ‘Untitled October Song.’

Blood Orange – Essex Honey

Blood Orange makes a striking return with Essex Honey, Dev Hynes’ first album under the moniker in seven years. Sparked by the passing of his mother in 2023, the record reflects on memory, loss, and home, grounding its themes in the Essex landscapes where Hynes grew up. Blending hazy pop, funk, and traces of post-punk and New Wave, the album is rich with references—nods to The Replacements on ‘Westerberg,’ an Elliott Smith interpolation sung by Lorde on ‘Mind Loaded,’ and even spoken-word from Zadie Smith on ‘Vivid Light.’ Layered with samples, sax solos, and orchestral flourishes, Essex Honey feels both nostalgic and otherworldly—a liminal meditation where the past lingers in every note.

Standout Songs: ‘Look At You,’ ‘The Field (feat. The Durutti Column,’ ‘Tariq Al-Sabir,’ ‘Caroline Polachek & Daniel Caesar),’ ‘Mind Loaded (feat. Caroline Polachek, Lorde & Mustafa),’ and ‘Vivid Light.’

CMAT – EURO-COUNTRY

CMAT’s third album, EURO-COUNTRY, takes the Irish pop provocateur into her most ambitious and personal work yet. Written and recorded in New York, the record balances her breakout pop instincts—like the viral ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’—with a bold embrace of country, as heard in ‘When a Good Man Cries.’ Across 13 tracks, CMAT explores grief, loss, ambition, and identity, infusing sharp humor and self-awareness. Whether reflecting on friendship, societal pressures, or Ireland, she crafts an album that is big, uncompromising, and honest, proving that struggle sharpened its impact.

Standout Songs: ‘EURO-COUNTRY,’ ‘When A Good Man Cries,’ ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station,’ ‘Take A Sexy Picture Of Me,’ and ‘Running/Planning.’
