There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from U.S. Girls, Haim, and Water Machine.

U.S. Girls – Scratch It

On her latest release, Meg Remy trades high-concept experimentation for the warm embrace of folk, country, gospel, and soul, and the result feels both unexpected and entirely natural. Inspired by personal evolution—approaching 40 and now a mother of two—Remy leans into more grounded storytelling without abandoning her offbeat instincts. Tracks like the poetic ‘Walking Song’ and the slyly subversive ‘Dear Patti’ showcase her ability to twist familiar genres into something deeply personal and inventive. With a band instructed to channel Tennessee soul, Remy delivers a collection that’s rich in feeling, quirky in detail, and rooted in the messy beauty of growing up.

Standout Songs: ‘Like James Said,’ ‘Bookends,’ and ‘Pay Streak.’

Haim – I Quit

Haim returns with I Quit, their bold and defiant fourth studio album and first release since 2020’s Women in Music, Pt. III. Despite the title, the sister trio—Este, Danielle, and Alana—frame quitting not as surrender, but as a declaration of self-worth and liberation. Inspired by a scene from That Thing You Do!, the album channels personal and professional reckonings into a cohesive collection of groove-heavy, nostalgic, and emotionally layered tracks. Co-produced by Rostam and Danielle Haim, I Quit opens with a sample of George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ’90’ and sets a rebellious tone, taking aim at failed relationships, fame’s pressures, and the toxic trappings of the industry. As always, Haim’s music is built for the stage—empowering anthems crafted with their electric live shows in mind.

Standout Songs: ‘All over me,’ ‘Relationships,’ ‘Down to be wrong,’ and ‘Everybody’s trying to figure me out.’

Water Machine – God Park

Glasgow’s Water Machine has unleashed their delightfully chaotic debut album God Park via FatCat Records, offering a joyfully erratic ride through punk, pop, and beyond. Known for their art-punk anthems about everyday absurdities—like dogs, rent, and toxic jobs—the five-piece blend jangly guitars, thumping rhythms, and sardonic lyrics into tracks that veer from Motown-infused garage rock to Velvet Underground-esque slow dances. With their roots firmly in Glasgow’s indie legacy and their heads in the clouds of “hyper conceptualised allegories,” Water Machine delivers a punk-positive escape that’s as unhinged as it is refreshing.

Standout Songs: ‘Clouds,’ ‘River,’ and ‘Junction.’
