3 New Albums Out This Week You Should Listen to Now: Youth Lagoon, Saya Gray, and Baths

There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.
This week we’re highlighting new music from Youth Lagoon, Saya Gray, and Baths.
Youth Lagoon – Rarely Do I Dream
Youth Lagoon, the moniker of Idaho-based songwriter and producer Trevor Powers, returns with Rarely Do I Dream, his most expansive and daring album yet. Inspired by a box of home videos discovered in his parents’ basement, Powers weaves childhood memories into a sonic landscape of twangy fuzz guitars, sun-bleached synths, classical pianos, and blown-out drums. Blurring the lines between past and future, he samples and manipulates these recordings, creating what he describes as “musical cinematography.” With co-producer Rodaidh McDonald, Powers crafts a deeply personal yet cinematic experience, blending gothic Americana with post-punk and electronic elements. As Powers puts it, “I wanted to make an album that feels like life itself.”
Standout Songs: ‘Speed Freak,’ ‘Football,’ ‘Lucy Takes a Picture,’ and ‘Saturday Cowboy Matinee.’

Saya Gray – SAYA
Saya Gray, the shape-shifting sonic innovator, unveils her debut album SAYA, out now via Dirty Hit. Known for her fearless genre-blending across hyperpop, folk, jazz, and industrial rock, Gray refines her boundary-pushing sound into a more cohesive form of melodic folk songcraft. Written during a solo road trip through Japan in the fall of 2023, SAYA draws from the vastness of classic influences like The Beatles and Joni Mitchell while maintaining Gray’s signature unpredictability. From the alt-pop anthem ‘..THUS IS WHY ( I DON’T SPRING 4 LOVE )’ to the psych-folk-meets-trip-hop fusion of ‘H.B.W.,’ Gray proves that even in a more grounded form, her music remains utterly unique.
Standout Songs: ‘SHELL (OF A MAN),’ ‘PUDDLE (OF ME),’ ‘H.B.W,’ and ‘LIE DOWN.’

Baths – Gut
After an eight-year hiatus, Will Wiesenfeld returns as Baths with Gut, a self-released album that is both visceral and unfiltered. Described by Wiesenfeld as “relentless, base, and boorish,” Gut is an emotional purge, shaped by instinct rather than over-analysis. Its sound shifts unpredictably—electronic, indie rock, and dance influences collide—while Wiesenfeld’s vulnerability remains intact. From the raw outcry of ‘American Mythos’ to the atmospheric shimmer of ‘Sea of Men,’ the album is a deep dive into desire, loneliness, and the physicality of emotion. Gut doesn’t just invite listeners in; it pulls them under.
Standout Songs: ‘Sea of Men,’ ‘Eden,’ ‘American Mythos,’ ‘Chaos,’ and ‘The Sound of a Blooming Flower.’
