There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from Heartworms, Squid, and Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory.

Heartworms – Glutton for Punishment

Heartworms’ debut album, Glutton For Punishment, sees South London artist Jojo Orme fully realize her singular vision. Produced by longtime collaborator Dan Carey, the album fuses the driving rhythms of gothic influences with sharp lyricism and unconventional structures, creating a sound unmistakably her own. Released via Speedy Wunderground, the album is a bold statement of intent from an artist unafraid to push boundaries. “With my EP, people kind of pigeonholed me into post-punk,” she says. “I was like, ‘Cool, I can do that, but I can also do way more’ – I can do post-punk, but I can also be poppy and catchy, and this album represents that. I think people might be surprised when they hear it.”

Standout Songs: ‘Just To Ask A Dance,’ ‘Jacked,’ ‘Mad Catch,’ and ‘Warplane.’

Squid – Cowards

Squid’s third studio album, Cowards, arrived February 7, 2025, via Warp Records, following 2023’s O Monolith. A post-rock exploration of cult leaders, sociopaths, and cannibals, the album spans nine tracks over 45 minutes. Produced by Marta Salogni, Grace Banks, and Dan Carey, it features contributions from Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku, Rosa Brook, percussionist Zands Duggan, and the Ruisi Quartet. Described by The Quietus as “Pet Sounds if all the pets were scorpions and tarantulas,” Cowards continues Squid’s boundary-pushing approach to sound and storytelling.

Standout Songs: ‘Crispy Skin,’ ‘Building 650,’ and ‘Blood on the Boulders.’

Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory – Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory

Sharon Van Etten’s seventh album, Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, marks a new chapter in her career, embracing full collaboration with her bandmates for the first time. With post-punk motifs and reflections on love amid upheaval, the album emerged from jam sessions in the desert before being recorded at The Church in London. Produced by Marta Salogni, it blends synth-driven textures with analog warmth. Featuring Jorge Balbi (drums), Devra Hoff (bass), and Teeny Lieberson (keys/vocals), the album explores both sonic liberation and emotional depth, embodying Van Etten’s evolving artistic ethos.

Standout Songs: ‘Afterlife,’ ‘Trouble,’ and ‘Southern Life (What It Must Be Like).’
